8 Surprising Beauty Uses for Avocado
Avocados are filled with vital nutrients that can greatly improve your health (and they taste really good, too)! But they can also be added to your everyday beauty routine in a surprising number of ways. Read on to learn how this delicious super-fruit can give you the amazing, healthy skin and hair you’ve always wanted…
- Face Mask.
Avocados can work wonders for your skin, and can even help fight acne (especially when mixed with other anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial ingredients)! Try blending half of an avocado with one teaspoon of raw honey, and mix in a bit of yogurt to help fight bacteria. Allow this mixture to rest on your face for about fifteen minutes, then rinse it off with lukewarm water.
- Scalp Revitalizer.
Mash up an avocado and blend it together with olive oil, working the contents into your scalp. The proteins and amino acids from the fruit will help nourish and heal your scalp, eliminating dryness and itchiness, while the olive oil provides extra hydration. Both oils can also help calm frizz and repair damaged strands (it’s pretty amazing)! Allow the mixture to rest for a good twenty minutes, then rinse.
- Eye Makeup Remover.
Avocado oil works both as an easy makeup remover and skin nourisher. Just cut an avocado in half, then use a cotton pad to pick up the oil and wipe the makeup out from under your eyes. Work the residue into your skin to enjoy the anti-aging benefits of its high nutritional content.
- Nail Strengthener.
Avocado oil can greatly enhance the strength and health of your nails. Just take a moment before bed to massage the oil into your cuticles and nails.
- Face and Lip Scrub.
Blend half of an avocado with one tablespoon of olive oil and brown sugar, and mix in a teaspoon of honey. This natural exfoliator makes an excellent scrub that will both balance and moisturize your skin. Take a bit of the mixture and add one drop of peppermint oil for a skin-brightening lip scrub.
- Natural Sunscreen and Ointment.
Avocado oil can be used to protect against UV rays, or sooth and heal sunburnt areas of the skin. Awesome, right?! Just rub some avocado oil over your skin and allow the healing (or protection) to commence! Because avocados also have a lot of anti-oxidants, they can protect against environmental damage as well.
- Shaving Cream.
The natural healing and soothing properties of avocados makes them a wonderful alternative to shaving cream for sensitive skin! Just apply a thin layer of avocado oil and go about your normal shaving routine. Your skin will be left feeling soft and smooth.
- Body Lotion.
Avocados are great for smoothing and moisturizing rough areas of the skin. Simply mash up an avocado and mix it together with one tablespoon of olive oil. Smooth it onto your skin during your shower and allow it to rest for five minutes, then rinse for softer, healthier skin!
