How Often Should You Really Wash Your Hair?

 

It isn’t a secret that washing your hair too much can be a big problem: it strips necessary oils from your strands, leaving you with frizzy, dry locks that are far more prone to breakage. Yikes! However, there seems to be a lot of conflicting advice out there about just how often you should wash. Some say you should do so every other day at the most, while others can go a whole week without getting their hair wet and still hit the streets without looking like a grease monster. What’s the right answer here? It all depends on your hair type…


For Fine-Haired Gals: Your hair type tends to get oily a lot faster than those with more volume, so you might think you should be scrubbing those strands daily. Not true! Too much shampoo and your locks will become, well, locked (re: they’ll lose movement). Try to limit your washing to three times a week and use a light conditioner. For Thick-Haired Girls: Your hair type allows you to go for far longer periods without washing (about three to four days). For Curly Girls: It takes much longer for oil to make its way down your strands with this hair type. That’s why you don’t have to wash your hair more than twice a week.
