If your hair just isn’t what you want it to be, then you are probably falling victim to these five common hair mistakes. Suffer no more! Read on to find out what you are doing wrong, and learn how to achieve those luscious locks you’ve always been after!
- You wash your hair too much.
Washing your hair too much will cause your scalp to produce excess sebum, making your hair look like an oil spill. For those with fine hair, try limiting yourself to three times per week. If you have thick hair, you can usually go two or three days between washing. Use dry shampoo while your hair adjusts; we love Pureology's Fresh Approach Dry Shampoo!
- You condition everything except your roots.
In an effort to preserve your hair’s volume, you probably aren’t conditioning the roots. For fine hair, this is a bad idea. Since this type of hair is fragile, it needs the support that comes with conditioning. Instead of avoiding the roots, pick a conditioner that is made to soften your strands without weighing them down, such as Sudzz FX’s Enhance Daily Conditioner.
- You towel-dry your hair.
One of the worst things you can do when it comes to your hair is to dry it with a towel. Your hair is at its weakest point when it is wet. Towel-drying, especially without gentle care, will cause frizz and breakage. To dry your hair quickly without the damage, use a detangling spray (such as Kenra's Platinum Style Prep Detangling Primer Spray), then squeeze your hair with a soft t-shirt or a silk towel.
- You don’t use heat protectant.
When you don’t protect your hair before applying heat, your strands will become weak and brittle. This is why PRAVANA's Nevo Invisible Control Heat-Activated Thermal Protectant is a must for healthy hair. We recommend P which provides thermal protection up to 428oF.
- You don’t section your hair.
For a flawless style, focus on individual sections by clipping pieces of your hair back. This makes it a lot harder to miss any strands when you’re styling. It may be more time-consuming, but your hair will look a lot better as a result!
