Whether you’re getting ready for a big event, or you just want to change up your look, curls are a great place to start! Unfortunately, if you don’t curl that often, you probably don’t have a curling wand. Never fear -- it’s nothing a little hairspray and a straightener can’t solve! Read on or watch the video below to learn how you can curl your hair with a flat iron.
Step One: Protect
No matter how you may be styling your hair, if it involves heat, you must always start with a heat protectant. We love PRAVANA’s Nevo Invisible Control Heat-Activated Thermal Protectant. It’s a cruelty-free formula that protects your hair while providing internal support and control.
Step Two: Section
Take your two index fingers and pull the top part of your hair back, beginning at your ears. Tie it on top of your hair to keep it out of the way.
Step Three: Curl
Begin by twisting your flat iron in whatever direction you want your hair to curl (i.e. away from your face or toward it). Next, starting from the back of your scalp, take one section of hair and place it in your flat iron then wrap it around the tool and pull it through. It is important that you know the thickness of your hair for this step. If your hair is naturally thick throughout, using a slower speed as you pull the iron through will ensure an even curl. If, however, your locks get thinner from root to tip, you will want to speed up your curling at the ends. Continue by alternating the direction in which you curl your hair. Finish the bottom section then let down the top layer of your hair and go through it with the iron.
Step Four: Finish it Off
Grab your favorite hairspray (ours is Kenra's Volume Spray 25) and run it over your locks for a firm hold. If you want to add volume without teasing, lift up your hair at the roots and spray this area as well. That’s all there is to it!
