How to Choose the Perfect Haircut

By Corinne Shoemaker November 08, 2015 0 comments

Just because you go to a salon doesn’t mean you’re going to walk out with hair as perfect as Selena Gomez’s. After all, you’re the one who ultimately decides what cut you get. We know how daunting this can be, so we’ve laid out a few tips to help you make the right choice! Read on to learn how to choose the perfect haircut.

  1. Understand the texture of your hair.

No matter how good your stylist is, you can’t walk into a salon with super fine strands and expect to walk out with Kate Upton’s texture and volume (or anything else so different from your own). You will have much more luck finding pictures of celebs who seem to share your strands’ same characteristics.

  1. Don’t have crazy expectations.

Again, you can only work with what you’ve been given. Even if you have hair that is relatively free of damage, it’s not always going to look magazine-cover ready (unless you have someone following you around 24/7 touching up your locks). Discuss possibilities with your stylist to make maintenance as easy as possible, but don’t think that one visit to the salon is all you need for gorgeous hair.

  1. Figure out the shape of your face.

When you pick a style, it should be with the intention of giving your face a more oval-like shape (so if you already have this shape – you can tell if your chin is a bit pointy and your jaw is slightly angled, like Jessica Alba – then any cut will work for you)! See how others achieve this by looking at pictures of celebrities with your face shape and the cuts they’ve had. Start with Kiera Knightley and Claire Danes if you have a square-shaped face,  Lauren Conrad and Kate Bosworth for round-shaped, or Reese Witherspoon and Jennifer Aniston for heart-shaped.

  1. Think about your schedule.

If you don’t have a lot of time in the morning to spend on your hair, then don’t go for a style that will take too much effort. On the other hand, if you can set aside a chunk of time for your locks (and it’s something you enjoy doing), then you can try a more stylish cut.

  1. Know what you want.

Getting a new haircut can be a big change, so you should feel totally confident about a style before making a decision. Take a few weeks to think about it, and get a second opinion from your stylist. If you still feel good about it, then congratulations – you’ve likely chosen the right cut!

That’s all there is to it! If you can think of anyone else who might find this article useful, please share it.
