What Causes Hair-Loss in Women

What Causes Hair-Loss in Women By Nicholas Mirabella

While hair loss may seem like a bigger problem for men, women are just as likely to deal with thinning hair. It’s more common in women in their 50s and 60s, although it can affect women of any age.
If your hair is falling out or thinning, the first step toward treatment is understanding what's causing your hair to fall out. There are many different factors that could be involved, and treatment is not one-size-fits-all.
Self-Inflicted Hair Issues
Sometimes thinning hair is a problem caused by behaviors that can be easily avoided. Certain hairstyles or overusing products can result in hair loss. Traction alopecia can be caused by tight hairstyles, such as braids that are too tight or cornrows. Using flat irons, the wrong brushes, cheap hair dyes, and chemical-based products can also cause breakage and damage. Even drying hair too aggressively with a towel, not brushing long hair, or brushing too vigorously can result in problems.
Nutritional Deficiencies
The health of your hair and your diet go hand in hand, so certain nutritional deficiencies have the potential to result in hair loss. The hair, nails, and skin can often be the first signs that you’re missing important nutrients. Deficiencies in zinc, protein, vitamin A, vitamin C, healthy fats, and iron can all cause hair loss.
Heredity
In some cases, hair loss is a condition you can inherit. Androgenetic alopecia, or female pattern baldness, is a hereditary condition affecting millions of women. It’s actually those most common cause of baldness inn women. Usually, when normal hair follicles are shed, they are replaced with hair follicles equal in size. However, this condition results in a thinner, finer replacement. The hair follicles shrink, and eventually, they can stop growing, resulting in thinning and then complete hair loss.
Medications
If your hair is thinning, be sure to check the side effects of medications you're taking regularly. Medications used to treat high blood pressure, arthritis, heart problems, and depression can affect your hair. Even birth control can cause women to experience hair loss.  Drugs used to treat cancer, such as chemotherapy, and radiation therapy to the head may result in baldness in women as well.
Trauma or Stress
Extreme stress or a traumatic event can result in hair loss in some individuals. Several months after an emotional or physical shock, some people lose their hair, although this hair loss is usually only temporary. Trigger events can include high fevers, a death in the family, surgery, or dramatic weight loss.
Physical and Hormonal Causes
A variety of different physical and hormonal issues can cause baldness or thinning hair in women. Hormonal imbalances due to childbirth, menopause, or pregnancy and thyroid problems can cause hair loss.  Scalp infections, including ringworm, and other skin disorders may result in the loss of hair. Certain autoimmune diseases and polycystic ovary syndrome  can also cause hair loss.
A Product That Can Help
Dealing with hair loss as a woman can be devastating, but there are options that can help. Certain products that are shown to block DHT production in the scalp can help reduce hair loss and even help hair to grow back.
One product that has offered results for women is Normadense Prowash Shampoo from Snobgirls. The product not only blocks DHT production, it stimulates circulation within the scalp to help with hair regrowth. It contains no soap, sulfates, formaldehydes, salt, or parabens, so it’s a healthy choice for your hair that won’t do more damage when you use it.
