We can't all have flawless eyebrows like Cara Delevigne...or can we? If you're struggling to give your eyebrows the gorgeous shape you dream about, then read on. You're probably doing a couple of these things wrong...
1. Not shaping your eyebrows.
The better you shape your eyebrows, the better framed your face will be. You don't need to have a professional do them – just follow their natural shape (where you see the greatest amount of hair) and pluck any strays.
2. Over-filling your eyebrows.
To make your eyebrows darker without looking like a muppet, you want to make sure that you don't get powder anywhere besides your hair (unless, of course, you're trying to cover up a bald spot). Brow mascara may be a better bet than powder since it will give you more control. Apply lightly for a noticeable effect that won't look fake.
3. Not filling in all of your eyebrows.
Though you want to be careful to avoid over-filling your brows, you should always go over the entire brow with your product. If you don't, your brows will look uneven. On that note, never go through your brows with one swipe of your tool. It looks much better if you copy the individual hairs of your brows with quick flicking motions going in the direction of their growth.
4. Not using the right color.
It doesn't matter how perfectly you fill in your brows if you use the wrong color. Experiment with a few different shades until you find the right one.
5 Not blending your brows.
In order for your arches to look natural, you have to make sure that you blend in your brows. Trace an angled line under your eyebrow, then work it up into the hairs by using a spoolie brush. This provides a simple way to fill in your brows so that they look natural (as long as you heed our warning)!
6. Squaring off the front.
If you want your eyebrows to look as natural as possible, you need to be gentle with squaring them. Don't create huge strokes, no matter your tool. Make them very small and hair-like.
7. Using too much product.
One of the worst things you can do for your brows is applying too much product. Begin with a small amount and build until your brows look how you want them to. If you do go a little over-board, no worries! Just take a brow brush to help distribute the product through your arches.
8. Creating a super long tail.
If you make the tail of your brows too long, they'll look droopy, ruining the natural lift that your brows give your face. To prevent this, just line up a brow pencil diagonally between your nostril and the edge of your eye. Wherever the pencil falls on your brow is where your brow should end.
9. Making your arch too pointy.
If you want to avoid a case of resting bitch-face, don't make your eyebrows too pointy! If they're a little softer than you'd like, add an arch, but be subtle about it. You can do this by lining up your eyebrow pencil diagonally with your nostril and the center of your eye. Then, use a spoolie brush to work your hairs downward. Follow this up by making a very small peak at the roots of your hairs along the tops of your eyebrows. Finish it all off by grabbing your spoolie brush and working your hairs upward and allowing them to fall into place, making the arch look more natural.
10. Leaving bald spots.
We all make mistakes. If you happen to over-pluck your brows, just fill it in with a pencil or some powder and an agled brush. Finish it off by brushing the hairs into place with brow mascara.
11. Over-doing it with your highlighter.
Instead of outlining your eyebrows with a highlighter, use a concealer that is one shade lighter than your skin. This way you can brighten the area without putting too much attention on your arches.
