If you suffer from flaky skin, don’t worry – you’re not alone! There are lots of things that can trigger flaky skin, from allergic reactions to a change in the season. A lot of people deal with it, but many of them don’t know how to keep it from screwing up their makeup. That’s where we come in! Read on to learn how you can remedy this problem once and for all.
1. Use A Concealer
One of the most effective fixes for flaky makeup is a creamy concealer, though you want to be careful how you apply it (i.e. don’t use a brush – it will only irritate your skin even more). Apply the product gently with your finger or a sponge.
2. Apply A Tinted Moisturizer, BB Cream, Or Primer
This is your next-best bet for dealing with flakes. Look for a formula that has hyaluronic acid or vitamin E to hydrate and soften the flaky area. Remember not to rub or you’ll make things worse – gently pat the product onto your skin. Try Mineral Sheer Tinted Moisturizer by Beauty Addicts (in addition to vitamin E, it contains SPF 20 to provide your skin with a little extra protection from the drying elements of the environment).
3. No Makeup? Try Lotion
If you don’t have any of the above-mentioned products, a body or face lotion like Active Moist by Dermalogica will help (though it isn’t a perfect solution). Take a very small amount and blot it onto your skin with a paper towel to help prevent shine.
4. Hand Cream
Apply Multivitamin Hand and Nail Treatment by Dermalogica exactly as you would body lotion: focus on flaky patches with a paper towel. It is very important, however, that you only use this product if it is formulated for sensitive skin, otherwise it may be unsafe to use on your face.
5. Lip Gloss
As long as your lip gloss doesn’t contain menthol (which is dangerous for your eyes), it can be very effective for eliminating flakes. Apply the smallest amount necessary. Try LipADDICTION Lip Gloss by Beauty Addicts.
6. Paper Towels And Water
This is kind of a last-resort method, but it should last you a good hour or so. Apply a bit of lukewarm water to the flaky area and gently dab it with your paper towel. Be sure to cleanse and moisturize your skin as soon as you get home. Finish it off with a hydrating serum like Phyto Replenish Oil by Dermalogica (which can also be used as makeup primer)!
